Q & A: Can I straighten bent bronze art?
Q: I have a Remington lamp, which has a bent pistol barrel. No stress or cracking, but it is pointing upward and not diagonally as it should be. What do you recommend?
A: That is a tricky question. Without actually seeing the piece it is hard to recommend a course of action. Generally speaking however, I would probably attempt to bend the barrel back carefully using needle-nose pliers with a rag between the pliers and the barrel. I would take my time and make small adjustments, checking progress as I went. Unfortunately, sometimes no matter what you do the piece will break. At that point the only thing left to do is weld it back on and chase the weld (re-texture). Be careful and take it slow. Even if it is very easy to move bronze art can break.
